Programs
The
Asian Art Association (AAA), a membership support group of the
Denver Art Museum, is dedicated to promoting knowledge and understanding
of Asian art and culture. It works closely with the Asian Art
Department to present programs and activities that will enable
the community to learn and enjoy, while keeping abreast of important
developments in the fascinating world of Asian art. The AAA presents
a Wednesday-at-Noon lecture series from September to May and evening
lectures throughout the year.

ASIAN ART ASSOCIATION 2008-09
EDUCATION CALENDAR
All events take place at the Denver
Art Museum, North Building, unless otherwise indicated.
“Wednesday-at-Noon” and "Friday-at-Night"
lectures and additional evening presentations of the same material,
most often Friday nights, are free to AAA members. $7 DAM members,
$2 students and Teachers, $10 others.
Reservations are requested for the “Wednesday-at-Noon”
and “Friday-at-Night” lectures. Lunch after the “Wednesday-at-Noon”
lectures at Palettes with the speaker is available, by individual
payment.
“Special Evening Receptions
and Events” include light hors d’ouvres and
beverages, lecture following reception. Usual costs: $18.00 AAA
members. $25.00 others (may vary per event). These events feature
nationally renowned speakers from across the country.

Evening Receptions and Events,” these evening programs include
hors d’ouvres and beverages. Please send your reservation

Sally Yu Leung
"Elegance and Complexity in Harmony:
The Art of Chinese Latticework"
Wednesday at Noon, September 30, 2009

Lower Level Lecture Room, Ponti (North) Building)
Sally Yu Leung will discuss the
bearty and functionality of the complex yet elegant latticework
that has traditionally served to decorate windows and partitions
in Chinese homes and gardens, as well as its influence on contemporary
design aesthetics.

"The Many Faces
of Zen"
Wednesday at Noon, October 21, 2009

Lower Level Lecture Room, Ponti (North) Building
Assistant Professor of Art and Art History at CUBoulder,
J.P. Park will explore the paradox embedded in Zen art and rituals;
the irony between iconoclasm and relic whorship, serene gardens
and violent action paintings, emphasis on "emptyness"
and highly eleborate rituals with a brief review of meditation,
tea ceremony, garden culture, koan (riddles), emphasis on physical
labor, and relic worship.
