The Everyday Traditions Gallery includes objects from South and Southeast Asia used for storytelling, puppet plays, festival processions, household furnishings, and popular worship, including wooden architectural elements, metalwork shrines, and bronze oil lamps. These objects are made by anonymous artists and artisans from both rural villages and urban centers. A storyteller’s box and a temple hanging both center on Krishna, one of the forms of the Hindu god Vishnu, shown in various illustrations depicting episodes from his life, including his flirtatious encounters with the Gopis (milkmaids).
