The subcontinent of India stretches from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean. In the India Gallery, look for monumental stone sculptures from Hindu temples, bronze images from religious shrines, and exquisite miniature paintings from illustrated manuscripts. Among the gallery highlights are a bronze sculpture representing the Hindu god Shiva as King of Dancers and a selection of miniature paintings, including one from the Markandeya Purana that depicts the demon general Dhurmalochana catching on fire. Art from India is also exhibited in the Buddhist Art Gallery and the Everyday Traditions Gallery.
