To Exhibitions

On the Road

In addition to presenting exhibitions at the Denver Art Museum, the Asian Art Department organizes shows that travel to other museums and galleries. It also lends individual objects to exhibitions in the United States and abroad. Staff members lecture, write catalogs, and provide curatorial services for outside exhibitions. By going on the road, the collections and staff of the Asian Art Department reach a larger number of people with an interest in Asian art and culture.

Of Samurai and Chrysanthemums
Longmont Museum and Cultural Center, Colorado
March 15 - May 11, 2003
Visitors to the Longmont Museum have an opportunity to see original Japanese artwork from the Amarillo Museum of Art's Price Asian Art Collection. This exhibition features fifty-five woodblock prints from the Edo period (1615 - 1868) and nine bronze sculptures from the Meiji period (1868 - 1912). These works show the diversity and elegance of Japanese society by depicting heroes, villains, actors, landscapes, and scenes of everyday life. Education programs include a lecture by Denver Art Museum curator Ronald Otsuka entitled "Of Swords and Flowers—Looking at Japanese Woodblock Prints."
