Installations & Artists

Each Embrace! artist selected a space in the Hamilton Building to transform into a unique installation. Rick Dula painted the structure’s steel underpinnings on level two. Nicola López chose a gallery on level four with high ceilings and sloping walls. Kristin Baker selected a dramatic space in the building’s “prow.”

Katharina Grosse picked a large wall in the atrium that can be seen from multiple perspectives.”It looks very different from all the angles that you might encounter during that little trip through the stairwell,” says Grosse. “That was one reason why I chose that space, because it allowed me to confront the visitors with movement in relationship to a painting.”

Listen to Embrace! artists talk about their work on your mobile phone at audio stops in the galleries. Transcripts of the recordings are available at DAM welcome centers.
