Upside Down by Christian Hahn
2009
Acrylic paint on wall and oil paint on canvas
Patrons: Jean and Francine Sliwka
Christian Hahn’s early fascination with video and computer games informs the recognizable yet weirdly disjointed images seen in his paintings.

I hope my pictures look at first very beautiful and maybe very positive—but I always like the space behind that. When people discuss my work, there are two opinions: some say ‘He paints only beauty,’ and others say ‘He paints only catastrophes.’ I think I’m directly in between. There’s beauty in my pictures, but there’s also something you can be afraid of.
Upside Down is located on level two in the temporary exhibition gallery. The work was executed with help from Brandon Bultman, Alex Erskine, Jake Galey, Liz Greene, Stephan Herrera, Sara Lyzziak, Dmitri Obergfell, Zach Reini, and Meghan Weatherby
